Sovereign Homes was originally started as a side project for Jim Sovran back in 1990. Working as a building inspector, he also helped build homes in his free time after work. Jim built many homes in Windsor-Essex over this time period averaging around 1-3 custom homes every couple years. During this time he built great relationships with many tradesmen, city employees and business partners. However, post-pandemic, following his retirement he started receiving offers to build in the commercial space and was looking to expand Sovereign Homes from a side hustle to an established residential and commercial general contracting business.

So, shortly after graduation, Jim’s son, Trent, joined the team as the companies first employee and it was during this period of growth and innovation that Sovereign Homes became Sovereign Developments. This name better reflected the Sovereign brand from a side hustle to an established business that does more than just custom homes. Along with our partner at Homes From Artisan, more than three decades and over 75 projects later, our commitment to the Windsor-Essex area is stronger than ever!
